Russell beyond the indexes

Russell has researched money managers and advised large pools of capital for more than three decades. Not long into that span it was clear that objective benchmarks, by which manager performance could be gauged most accurately, were unavailable. In addition, Russell and its clients needed tools to assist in putting together multi-manager portfolios in the U.S. equity market

Thus, in 1984, Russell created its objective, transparent set of U.S. equity indexes.

The indexes help Russell better perform its role as an active manager of managers.
