Russell U.S. index values explainer

The Russell U.S. equity index values shown on most finance sites, in the media, and in the intraday index values tools on Russell.com, are calculated by Reuters in real-time using primary exchange prices. They are utilized for derivative trading, media reporting and exchange traded funds.

The end-of-day and historical values (not the intraday ticker values) posted to russell.com are calculated by Russell also using primary closing prices.

The levels were started at different periods and values. For Example, the Reuters value for the Russell 2000® was started on 12/31/1986 at 135.00, while the Russell value was started on 12/31/1978 at 100.00.
